The Tome of Syyx is the first book in The Fateful Force series by debut author Stavros Saristavros. From the moment I read the synopsis I knew this was a book I wanted to dive into. I am a huge fantasy fan and while the fantasy I normally read isn’t quite as battle heavy as this was, I was instantly taken in by the setting and characters. One thing that comes through really well throughout the novel is the author’s passion for D&D aka Dungeons and Dragons. That was something I never quite got into growing up so there were a few moments where I was a bit lost and overwhelmed but thanks to a little help from Google on some of the weaponry involved I was able to keep up.
The prologue opens up with immediate action where a book known as the Tome of Syyx was taken from the ziggurat where it was kept. After that, I knew I was going to be in for a wild ride. We then are introduced to four characters, Zom, Akke, Ailuros, and Osho who are given several different quests together throughout the story. Throughout the book I grew very attached to these characters, especially Akke. Zom is a half-Orc, Akke is a half-elf, Ailuros is a Panthor, and Osho is human. One of the great things about this book is the amount of diversity between all manner of fantastical creatures, many of them working towards equality for all. Through these four unique characters we are taken on an epic adventure that is both awe inspiring and heart pounding.
One thing I thoroughly enjoyed was the map at the beginning of the book and the illustrations throughout the book that were at the end of many of the chapters. Another really cool thing that I’ve never quite encountered until now is the extensive free resource the author provides on his website (https://thefatefulforce.com) . You can tell how passionate Saristavros is about this new series from this site. There is so much information about the world and different creatures among other things. I also highly recommend checking out the free battle maps sections to see more of the locations from the book including Ziggurat, and one of my favorite spots – The Smiling Orc! Even if you’re not into D&D these images and maps are really cool and very well done. To see a great illustration Akke, Osho, Ailuros, and Zom hover over The World and click on Notable Inhabitants. The artwork is beautiful and fun to compare them to the way I saw them in my head. It is such a cool site to browse while reading the book and after finishing it. I am very much looking forward to the second installment in The Fateful Force!

“The Tome of Syyx” is the first book in The Fateful Force series by author Stavros Saristavros. The book is not short but I think it doesn’t feel heavy either. It has the right number of pages and narrative for such a story.
Just by looking at the cover I knew I would love this book and I wasn’t wrong. The story developed is amazing from the very beginning and the characters are complete, well developed and complex. I liked them all.

For those who like fantasy and battles, this is the right book to read. It is a solid read that doesn’t disappoint at all. Recommended!

Thank you Reedsy for the ARC. see my origional review here https://reedsy.com/discovery/book/the...

I was thrilled for this book based on its synopsis: Orcs and Dragons and Adventure bode for an amazing story ready to unfold. And I cannot fault it: a great story did unfold! Before I speak of the bits I adored, however, there is an elephant in the room: This is a Dungeons and Dragons adventure. It might be something people less familiar with DnD would overlook, but for someone that plays weekly themselves certain things become painfully obvious. By those things I mean the description of the use of Ki, or spell slots, or something that looked a lot like the warcaster feat... Many characters also seemed to have very clearly defined and recognisable classes and races, doing things that fit those as by game rules. I will not be convinced that Panthor are not copyright-free tabaxi, for example. This needs to be mentionned as I feel like it stiffened the world and worldbuilding. This story kept making me wish for just that bit more inventiveness, yet it continued to feel like something I had seen before. I spend this entire book waiting and hoping for it to break the mold, but it never truly did. This has another side too, however, as it made the book feel very familiar: which is not necessarily a bad thing. I was happy to lift onto the familiar ride, similar to how someone might watch a streamed campaign and there is something to say for a book to follow the same idea. It would be a great read for people that enjoy that kind of thing!

Another thing that I think might stem from the roleplay aspect of this story, is that character arcs were slightly stunted by constant flipping between characters: Every time something important happened, a cutaway made it really hard to get a real overview of what was going on the resolve the arisen issues. which was a shame, because I was really invested! Coming to the good part of this review: I genuinely cared for these characters and their quests. Zom's arch was my personal favourite, leaving me excited to come back to his POV but I can see that there was something for many tastes. The character's archs carried this book for me. I cared more for those than the epic battles and dragon riding and whatever...I wanted to know what happened to these people I was introduced to and I think that is commendable.

Fantasy is my first love among all genres. From childhood, I've loved stories of valiant heroes, epic evilness, and fantastical lands populated by denizens who may or may not be human. Throw in a dragon (or two) and an ancient death god, and you've got The Tome of Syyx by debut author Stavros Saristavros. You've also go the beginnings of one helluva a great
series.

(One item I'd like to mention before continuing with my review, Saristavros gives thanks in his Acknowledgements to a few people, including his wife, for providing time and inspiration for the book through Dungeons and Dragons campaigns. I'm a huge D&D fan and have been playing since I was ten. I can definitely see the D&D-inpsired elements in The Tome of Syyx, and I love them! Yes, I totally geeked out over the D&D elements. And, yes, the fact that the book arrived signed and with an inscription only made me geek out even harder. What can I say? I'm a dork. Now, on with the review...)

The Tome of Syyx opens with an epic battle, and Saristavros's writing paints a clear picture of the events to the point I could smell the smoke from the fires, hears the battle cries of the combatants, and taste the acridness of....well, I probably shouldn't mention that because potential spoilers. Let's just say, I was completely in the moment while reading the prologue.

The writing continued to paint vivd pictures throughout the book. Never did I feel as though I was a reader scanning words on a page. I felt as though I was in the scene with the characters, taking part in battles, sharing drinks in taverns, celebrating victories, and commiserating losses. Multiple points of view give depth to the story and keeps the reader on their mental toes wondering who can be trusted, how will the story end, and most importantly, when will book two be released because by the end of The Tome of Syyx you'll be so invested in the characters and world you'll want to keep reading and reading and reading and... You get the idea.

The Tome of Syyx is an emotional rollercoaster interspersed with high-stakes battles, intrigue, and a cast of lovable characters. I can't wait to see what the next installment will bring.

The Tome of Syyx is Book 1 of The Fateful Force Series written by Stavros Saristavros. The book is 586 pages in length, but don’t be deterred, the plot and it’s characters are well developed. This book fits well in the fantasy genre and from the beginning readers can expect to interact with magical characters and people that are intensely intricate and detailed. The book is guaranteed to keep its readers guessing, blending magic and metaphysics to lend credibility to all possibilities. The illustrations that appear in the book makes it easier for readers to connect with the characters.

Four brave adventures Osho, Ailuros, Akke and Zom voyage on a dangerous excursion to the Wild Moor to defeat and kill Kurig and regain control of there fortress. Saristavros was very descriptive with the battle scenes and one could visualize the scenes as if they were fighting side by side. Dragons, hobgoblins, elves and other mythical creatures are featured in The Tome of Syyx. After establishing that the Tome of Syyx was “something that was stolen in the destruction of Ferghail, an object of dark power”, one that should never be reunited with Aramon. The key safely hidden with the dragon they set out to retrieve the key and stop their enemies from getting hold of the Tome of Syyx. The plot continues at a steady pace and dives into fantastic worlds of magic, power, and the never-ending fight between darkness and light in which fans of fantasy, science fiction, and classic stories will find both familiar faces and new concepts.

“But then the undead hit the main Sanctuary line in a wave of horror. The defenders were edged back by the sheer force of the assault… bolstered by a wave of divine energy they regained their footing.”

The Tome of Syyx is an ambitious fantasy novel for readers whose principled creatures face challenge after challenge.

Stavros Saristavros’s The Tome of Syyx (The Fateful Force Book 1) is an exciting fantasy adventure.
From the start the book grips your attention as the reader is whisked into the depth of a gruesome war and magical ritual. The battle of the protagonists to save their kingdom is grippingly told and the magical world in which they live comes to life from the pages.
I really enjoyed Saristavros’s writing style and ability to spin an enchanting tale. I like how he combines so many different magical creatures that aren’t always paired together and shows another side of them that isn’t usually portrayed.
As an avid reader of fantasy books can often start to feel the same, but The Tome of Syyx is a definition exception and breath of fresh air in the fantasy world.

"The Tome of Syyx" is well-written, with vivid action scenes and surprising twists.
Four young men set out on a perilous journey to the Wild Moor. They face armies of orcs, hobgoblins, dragons, and an imprisoned God who returns to cause havoc chaos in the world.

This is Stavros' first novel, and I guarantee you'll be pleasantly surprised. I couldn't put this story down once I started. I believe this book would be a fantastic film. The fantasy elements and action kept me on the edge of my seat. The characters are well defined and remain consistent all through the story. Personally, I considered this was a fantastic read. And I'm excited to continue reading this series.

The Tome of Syyx by Stavros Saristavros is a fantasy novel that includes gods and goblins and orcs—oh my! 4 inhabitants of Sanctuary venture off into the Wild Moor to show who they are, and legitimize their existence. It’s a hefty book, but a very enjoyable read, especially if you like Lord of the Rings or D&D. And if you are a fan of D&D, the author also has a site (thefatefulforce.com) where you can get free resources.
I liked the exploration of identity and the complex interracial relationships. Rather than that fantastical happily ever after—which I don’t always mind—there’s an acknowledgment of conflict re-emerging after peace fades into normalcy. Very good world building!

“The tome of Syyx” is a wonderful adventure and fantasy novel. I really liked the writing style of the author and the descriptions and images of the characters. Along the story, they come alive and define their characteristics and traits until they become real and believable.
Strange towns and monstrous inhabitants are the perfect complement to the fight of a group of young people against evils of the past.
This book is really entertaining and a very good option to share with friends and family. In my case, my teenage children loved it.

D&d style adventure

Four friends set out on a quest to prove themselves and the town they hail from. Ailuros, Akke and Zom are three of them and together with their fourth they will have to face trial after trial before their adventures are over. The book starts off with a bang and e ough of a mystery to get you hooked on the story. I really liked the development of everything here, the world, the plot, the characters as well as how the story progressed. It all worked really well and I enjoyed the story immensely.

I enjoyed reading this book. It kept my interest most of the time. I became a fantasy reader back in the late 70's when Dungeons and Dragons was really on top of the fantasy game pile. There were many books back then, written by D&D players and authors who sometimes, related their notes from gaming sessions into books. I liked that because all the characters types and others were familiar and consistent because of the game.
Over the years, that has changed and there's no more character type consistency between authors. Don't get me wrong, there were many writers forever who did not follow D&D types but they always had similar characteristics in the heroes and villains. But then, over the years, villain types who were weak became strong and the strong became weak. I blame games like World of Warcraft and similar because of how they treated the monsters. For example, dragons. I watched a WoW session where a bunch of players took on a dragon. The dragon (which used to have exceptional intelligence) became stupid. It just hovered and occasionally attacked one or two players until it was finally vanquished. One of the players told me the dragon they just killed was one of the strongest and smartest he'd ever run into.
I was happy to read, in this book, the characters were more traditional and believable. There was one I was unfamiliar with, a panthor, but it was well done and explained adequately. Thank you Saristavros for bringing back consistent character types with traditional strengths and weaknesses. I don't read much fantasy anymore because of extreme and implausible variations between characters. I will continue reading this series.

The Tome of Syyx by Stavros Saristavros is a fantastic fantasy novel that lands its readers in an exciting land. Four young lords set out on a perilous journey from the town of Sanctury into the untamed wild Moor. What they discover is far more frightening and terrifying. Armies of orcs and hobgoblins are far from the only threats. Ancient evil stirs not only dragons are rumored to fly but also an imprisoned God returns to plague the world. To overcome the massive disastrous calamity, unlikely alliances must be forged, and rivalries set aside but not all friendships are as they seem to be.

This is a brilliant work in the fantasy genre, the author has detailed every scene with precision. The characters are well developed, and their interaction never dulls. I enjoyed my time reading as the storyline flows flawlessly. The creativity by the author is stunning as you experience it with battle scenes. This is a must read for the fans of this genre and a great start for the newcomers.

In general I really enjoy the characters and world created for this book. Without any hesitation the author embraces the fantasy world and races created for dungeons and dragons. I have played these games for years very casually and my understanding of many things is incredibly limited, I feel as though these stories give a window to learn more about the world, skills and possibilities in a new format.

However, I felt the jumping between scenes of interest held the story back. I would have enjoyed seeing this team and community develop during the down time. Explored a bit, learning about side characters that could appear in future stories.

I'm glad I won this book, it isn't one I would have likely picked up on my own. I am on the fence about continuing the series but the characters have an incredible potential for growth.

great

“The tome of Syyx” by Stavros Saristavros is an amazing fantasy book filled with bewildering creatures such as armies made of dark beings like the orcs and hobgoblins. Creatures that threaten the peace in the Free city of the frontier. But it’s not only them who are a danger for the inhabitants…
In order to re-establish order, 4 hopeful warriors have to go through turmoil and hardships. They will have to learn who to trust and who not to put too much faith in. You never really know, who the enemy is.
I can definitely recommend this book! It is not only entertaining but also very enriching vocabulary wise and for your imagination. It’s always good to create new spaces for different ideas.

“The Tome of Syyx” has a really strange and enticing title. I saw it some days ago and I chose it. Let me say that it absolutely took my breath away since it has plenty of action and adventure.
The author has used her exceptional storytelling skills to narrate this story with the best-chosen characters, concise dialogues, excellent descriptions and the right pace. The promising writer painted the emotional struggles of Sanctuary’s town using an exquisite vocabulary which made me an active participant in the story.
Even though it’s a very extensive piece of work and I felt a bit lost at times, it’s a great alternative to pass time. I really enjoyed the book and I’ll definitely continue choosing this genre.

The Tome of Syyx is the first book in The Fateful Force series by author Stavros Saristavros, and it is a great fantasy story if you enjoy war plots. In fact, I think it can be an engaging book for teenagers who usually like this kind of fictions. This can be an adventurous trip that they will never forget.

As usual in this genre, the volume is enriched with a map that helps to understand the location. But in this case, I was also amazed by the wonderful drawing in the cover (as well as the illustrations in the publication). This is easily one of the most attractive books in the genre I have encountered!

Author Stavros Saristavros created a very detailed plot centered around four young adventurers with a mission that will become decisive not only in their survuval but also in their bond.

"The Tome of Syyx" is book one in the series and it's filled with very detailed characters and scenarios. Readers may be confused at first with so much information, but once it is all settled, the adventure begins.

It is a great captivating fantasy novel with a great pace that complements the story really well. I will be sure to check book number two to see how the story continues. A really good read for those into fantasy novels.

It is a very good read; the story is solid and the characters are amazing. Being the first book in The Fateful Force series by author Stavros, “The Tome of Syyx” is a story difficult to put down. Although I found the book a bit long and I would like it to be a bit shorter, I think that the narrative is very good and not dull at any moment.

What I loved was the characters' viewpoint, this is something to highlight. The author has done a marvellous job with it. I would read the next installment for sure because I was trapped by the plot and also, I felt hooked because of the author’s writing style, which is great.

I would recommend reading “The Tome of Syyx”.

This was a fun book to start the year with. There's a lot to like here. Felt a little fluffy in some areas but it didn't ruin the story for me.
