The Fear Hunter (Agatha Bright Mysteries Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 3,969 ratings

Living in a haunted lighthouse in the small town of Sea Breeze, California with her two elderly aunts, Agatha Bright has everything she wants. She owns and runs a bookstore / soup shop on the beach, and her soups are loved by everyone in town. Her life is regimented and organized.

But Agatha has secrets that might get her in big trouble. Witchy secrets.

When a woman goes missing, the suspicion falls on Agatha, turning her life upside down. The new detective in town, Remington Cumberbatch, has seen a lot of weird things as a detective in nearby Cannes, California, but he’s in for a surprise with Agatha, her family, and the quirky town of Sea Breeze. He begins to investigate Agatha as the number one suspect, but the attraction is immediate.

When the missing woman turns out to be murdered, the mystery deepens, and Agatha must help Remington find the killer before she winds up in prison…or worse.

The Fear Hunter is the first installment of the Agatha Bright Mysteries, a funny, romantic, small town cozy mystery series with a touch of witchy magic. It is a spin-off series of the Matchmaker Mysteries and the Goodnight Mysteries with some characters from both.

Agatha Bright Mysteries… Agatha Bright has a delicious recipe for murder.

I love this book! A cross between Hocus Pocus and Stephanie Plum, Bounty Hunter. It's a hilarious mystery, with laugh out loud lines and hijinks. I love Agatha and her Aunts. I love the supporting characters, but most of all I love the romantic men in Aggie's life. Such a fun read.

This was book 1 in the "Agatha Bright Mysteries" Agatha Bright has everything she wants. She owns and runs a bookstore / soup shop on the beach, and her soups are loved by everyone in town. When a woman is found dead she becomes the prime suspect. Remington Cumberbatch has seen a lot of things as a detective he is new in town but he hasn't seen anything like this town. This was a pretty good read that I liked a lot. It was fun with a lot of kooky characters in it. Agatha and her aunts are witches. This was my first time reading this author. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

A fun read. You will need to suspend your commonsense while reading. It begins w/Agatha Bright having to go to town, Sea Breeze, CA, to keep her recently deceased Aunt Pru's soup/book shop open. Agatha prefers running & maintaining the light house connected to the magical Victorian she & her aunt(s) own. The home mutates if someone comes to visit they don't like....instead of 4 steps, they'll be 100, a window breaks or an appliance, the problem is either fixed or a new one appears. She's not a morning person & hates making soup....she does have Aunt Pru's recipes. A glowing blue, naked man shows up yelling about Area 38. Another new comer is a very attractive, fit detective....a former pro-wrestler, Remington. One of her regulars disappears & is found later, murdered, found w/a shark on the town's pier. Agatha decides to read some mysteries & solve the crime. A long lost aunt appears....Aunt Tilly doesn't get along w/the 3rd aunt in the home, Aunt Ida. Additional deaths in town occur, plus there are 2 groups camping out at the soup/book store. The punk knitters & the guys trying to storm area 38. Agatha becomes friends w/a cat-walker & a Realtor...the 3 of them involve themselves in solving the deaths. Each 1 is bizarre. Also, Agatha is trying to keep a low profile so the town's people don't realize how truly strange she & her aunts are. Not to mention her ghost BF, John Richard, who died 300 years earlier. Odd, quirky story line but I enjoyed it. And, it has a surprise ending.

The synopsis had me curious; the reviews were a mix between likes and dislikes and I opened the kindle with mixed feelings.

This year; I promised myself to read some of the older books and scheduled my TBR list accordingly.

The fear hunter has an intriguing plot twist with interesting characters that ends on a cliffhanger. In book 1, we are introduced to Agatha and her aunts, the dashing detective Remington Cumberbash and the townsfolk of Sea Breeze.
Running is not an easy task for anyone, but for Agatha, who didn't like to cook, this was a nightmare. But because she has inherited it from an aunt, she had little choice.

Meeting the new police officer spiked her emotions and body in ways that left one jealous. With images of stormy sheets and fogged windows, this man could raise any old maid's blood pressure.
When a woman disappears, questions were raised that put Agatha right in the middle of the scene. This prompts her to investigate.
But she does not know where to start. One of the many visitors to her soup kitchen introduces her to some mystery novels and she study this with eagerness.

Through it all, you always get the impression there is more going on than what you read. As if there are other powers at work in the background. This kept me going, but the wordiness of the book distracted me too much and by the middle of the book, I was done. Too many repeats didn't help either.

Thanks for the gift back in 2021 and though I won't continue with the series, I believe there will be readers who will enjoy this book.

A very enjoyable read!!
Agatha Bright lives in a haunted lighthouse with
her aunts. The lighthouse is located in Sea Breeze,
California. Agatha has always been in charge of
the lighthouse and never had to deal with the
public.
Then with the death of one of her aunts, Agatha
is assigned to step up and run her deceased aunts
soup & book shop. She needs to make four kinds
of soup every day.
When there is a murder in Sea Breeze, Agatha
decides to play detective to solve the murder.
Then another murder occurs. The handsome
Detective Remington Cumberbatch is a large
inspiration in Agatha to discover the culprit.
There are a lot of quirky, well created and
well meaning characters in this small town to
be viable suspects.
A quick, fun read.

A fun mystery that I really enjoyed. Not only did the author keep me guessing with “who done-it” suspense, but also with likeable characters, and comedy. I liked the main character, Agatha (Aggie) too. Sax doesn’t come out and “tell” readers certain details, which for some might be maddening, but for me, this was part of the unfolding mystery. So, I don’t want to give too much away and spoil the tale for other readers. The characters were a hoot and I laughed out loud a lot. I could see them and hear their hilarious statements. Sax is talented with her ability to do this. This is my first time reading her work and I know I’ll read another of her books. I’m recommending this book, and all ready have, to friends and family.

I received this free eBook through The Fussy Librarian in exchange for a fair review.
This is the first book of a new cozy mystery series with a touch of supernatural from one of my favorite authors. Not only the murder mystery is complex and interesting, but the quirky characters are hilarious. Although there are supernatural elements in the book, such as the main character and her two aunts having been alive for hundreds or maybe thousands of years without showing their ages, but there is no violence, explicit language, or sex.
