Europe, 1939: At the dawn of World War II, French perfumer Danielle Bretancourt and her German husband strive to ensure their family's safety, yet neither can foresee the ultimate cost. As the war intensifies, Danielle is forced to seek refuge in America to save the lives of her remaining family. She draws on her skills as a talented perfumer to pull them out of crushing poverty. Yet even as she forges a new life among the Hollywood elite, she cannot forget her lost child nor the man who risked everything for her. Set between privileged lifestyles and gritty realities, The Perfumer is one woman's story of courage, spirit, and resilience.

“A sweeping tale that transports readers from the lavender-scented fields of Provence to the pulsing boulevards of Paris… Heartbreaking, evocative, and inspiring, this book is a powerful journey.” – Allison Pataki, New York Times Bestselling Author of The Accidental Empress

"Jan Moran is the new queen of the epic romance." ―USA Today Bestselling Author Rebecca Forster

"A stylish, compelling story of a family torn apart by war and a woman's courageous efforts to bring them back together, with everything from romance to heartache, spying, intrigue, and vivid settings. Danielle is just the kind of feisty female protagonist that I love, but what really sets this saga apart is the backdrop of perfumery that suffuses the story with the delicious aromas of rose, jasmine, lavender, bergamot, etc. You can almost smell them as you read - a remarkable feat!"―Liz Trenow, New York Times Bestselling Author of The Forgotten Seamstress

“A sweeping saga of one woman’s journey through World War II and her unwillingness to give up even when faced with the toughest challenges.” — Anita Abriel, Author of The Light After the War

“A gripping World War II story of poignant love and devastating, heart-wrenching loss.” — Gill Paul, USA Today and Toronto Globe & Mail Bestselling Author of The Secret Wife

"Hard to put down…captivating. A 'must-read.'" ―Marvel Fields, Chairman, American Society of Perfumers

"Utterly inescapable. Jan Moran's masterful romance comes with a bonus: she interweaves this romantic tale with a behind-the-scenes look at perfumery. The fascinating result is a tale that rivals Danielle Steele at her romantic best!" ―Allegra Jordan, Author of The End of Innocence

A love story full of tragedy and sorrow as it happens during World War II. Although horrors of war are honestly described what catches the reader´s imagination is how people´s feelings are written and how unfortunate lack of communication can be. If you are flowers and perfume lover you will be delighted to read about them in this book. A very good plot that keeps the reader tied to the book till the end. Really entertaining. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Emotionally Rich Account of Surviving WWII This book of women's fiction is the story of a woman and her family and their survival during WWII. There are very little battlefield type scenes. This is an emotional story of love and loss, success and failure, and finally victory. This is the type of story that I love to savor. I imagine myself facing life as our heroine and knowing that I would crumble where she succeeded. I love a fictional story that the reader can sink her teeth into. I received this ARC book for free from Booksprout and this is my honest review.

Resiliency During WWII Imagined stories of what could have happened during World War II are so compelling. This is certainly one of those. It follows the travails of a French woman married to a German man who owned a business in Poland. The family is beset by heartbreaking problems from the very beginning. The heroine is so very strong, determined to make things right for herself and her remaining family; she is remarkably resilient. I enjoyed seeing the world through the young woman's eyes, or rather, nose! The world is certainly a different place for someone who is so finely attuned to an unusual sense. I also liked learning about the art and science of perfumery. I thought the book was perhaps a little overwritten in places, and the beginning had a bit of an information dump, even if it was better done than most. Still, I found this to be a riveting read. I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
