Undercover FBI #7

Special Agent Rylee

Rate this book
Rylee couldn’t believe her rotten luck…

Being chosen as one of the agents to play bodyguard to a spoiled billionaire while sailing on a Caribbean cruise depresses her... a lot. The dude – so important to the government that they’re willing to provide the best to protect him – won’t even know they’re in place. The big question – why her? She prefers work that matters, the dirty jobs, on the streets, in the trenches, and her boss knows it. Keeping Mr. Fancy Pants out of the clutches of a worshipping stalker, mercenaries and a man out to seek revenge for an old injustice just annoys her.

Not excited about his pending cruise, before boarding the ship, Jake Andrews sees an enticing woman on the pier and decides it might not be so bad after all. Becoming landlord to two stowaways – one being a tiny kitten – isn’t at all in his plans for this vacation either. His goal is to finish his phone app for the Pentagon, have a good long rest to heal from recent stress and take a break from being threatened, stalked and attacked.

But if he can spend some of the voyage romancing this chick, that might add enough spice to his days… and nights for the trip to prove eventful.

Surprise!

Eventful doesn’t even come close…

I really enjoyed the first book in this Series, but the following books haven’t been my favorites. There is unnecessary drama, FBI agents making unwise decisions, to many chapters, and then everything getting wrapped up in a way that’s not realistic. Plus, the change in career decisions are maddening. The author didn’t keep her own story straight, as to which sister was the youngest.
This book has a sexy, rich, caring, and likable hero, Jake. Rylee is intense but soon relaxes on the cruise, just too much for a FBI agent on an undercover assignment. Carl/Carlos was my favorite character. The story had it moments, but overall just an average book.

This is another good book in this series. I was so proud of how strong Rylee is after the terrible thing that happened to her as a teenager. She is one good agent, but has her heart so closed off to love. I was glad to see her meet her match when she had to watch over Jake without Jake knowing. Jake may be a millionaire, but he went through so much when he was younger that made him have a soft heart. It was so nice to see how he helped so many people. It was suspenseful at times when there were so many people after Jake and his app he was building. The book touched my heart is many ways as there was a young boy and his twin six month old siblings involved too. I couldn’t help but love Rylee’s sister and how protective she is of Rylee. I loved the book and strongly encourage you to read it.

Mimi Barbour, ‘Special Agent Rylee’, Undercover Book 7.

As an ARC reader I received this book for free. And promised an honest review. Here it is. English isn’t my first language. Sorry for errors.

Rating: 4 stars (of 5).

In general: Sweet love between tough FBI agent and computer nerd.

Leading character:
- Rylee James.
Inspired by experiences in her youth she becames a tough FBI undercover agent, specialized in dangerous, dirty cases. And was very successful.

- Jake Andrews.
Computer nerd. Designing security apps. Very important for the US government. So he got FBI protection, because of threats from foreign countries and criminal organisations which want to steel his app.

Rylee and Jake meet when Jake - fleeing the threats at home - takes a cruise into the Caribbean. Rylee, disguised as a tourist, is one of his bodyguards. She doesn’t like the job, for she thinks it’s too soft and not in accordance with her reputation as solver of rough cases.
Meeting Jake she likes him; he’s not the spoiled, wealthy company owner she expected him to be when she studied his files. And Jake admires Rylee, the tomboy turned into a gorgeous looking woman. During the cruise Rylee and her colleagues discover that a lot of Jake’s enemies are on board trying to force him to give them the security app.
The author, Mimi Barbour, describes how Jake and Rylee fall in love while the FBI saves Jake from several attacks. She creates an interesting and exciting plot with a lot of wonderful characters, many suspenseful action scenes and unexpected turns in the story. Fortunately Jake and Rylee’s opponents aren’t always very clever, so there’s a happy end. For me the book was an easy to read, pleasant page turner.

Special Agent Rylee is the seventh book in the Undercover FBI series, but reads well as a stand alone. Rylee has been tasked with going undercover to guard a tech genius on a cruise ship, and she’s furious. She wants the fast and furious jobs with the FBI, not a luxury vacation. No one is more surprised when she meets Jake and not only does the attraction fly, but so does the danger. With so many people interested in Jake’s work, will Rylee be able to keep him safe and walk away with her heart intact, especially with two special stowaways thrown into the mix?

Oh my, this book was the perfect blend between funny and steamy, sweet and romantic, with snark, danger, and a lot of self discovery! I loved it! Rylee and Jake definitely captured my attention and I loved reading their romance. It was the perfect read right now, too, because the whole book was set on a cruise ship - how fun and original! Rylee is an adrenaline junky, loves the dangerous job, is known as having ice in her veins, but I just loved watching her melt for Jake and for the two special stowaways. It was heartwarming to see her vulnerable, but thrilling to read her kick butt scenes, too! Jake was just the biggest sweetheart with the kindest soul. I loved how he helped soften Rylee, that they were two sides of the same coin. The danger in this book was amusing at times, serious at others, and I loved that it was constant throughout the whole book. The stowaways added an extra special element to the story that I just loved! While I haven’t read all the books in the series yet, this one has been my favorite so far and I am excited to read more!

I don't know what I was expecting exactly but this story was really different. And that's not a bad thing either because it was really good. It starts out with great main characters too!
Rylee was just as tough as you expect from the book information but she was also so much more. Life has given her some tough times and that was way before she became an agent. It also affected some of the choices she made, like taking on so many dangerous assignments. Something that drove her loving sister Mari often to the point of fearful tizzies. Mari was successful in her own right but she was nowhere near anything that's even close to violent.
Jake was nothing like I was expecting and once again that was a good thing. He was a genius but he also was so softhearted and that was something different. Things that he had experienced so much earlier had made him sensitive to other people. It also caused him to want to help those who were in pain. He was pretty perceptive when it came to that.
Miguel was a surprise twist and one that I really enjoyed. Carlos was another interesting surprise as well.
Dangers kept coming at Jake and caused a lot of action and surprises. One of the last surprises was an enemy that surfaced that they hadn't realized was on board. More action, more danger, more to overcome. Which they do with the help of at least one other agent as well.

Great ending with a H.E.A. and a look into some of the changes that come into their lives.

I’m really on the fence about this one. There were parts of this story that I really enjoyed; Miguel and his family, the kitten, Rylee’s banter with Carl, and even most things that Jake does. But overall, the plot feels more like a Mr. Bean spy movie than the romantic suspense of any of the previous books in the series. (And I’m not talking about Johnny English, I’m talking about Mr. Bean as a spy.) I’m learning to overlook a lot in terms of spelling and grammatical mistakes, but continuity errors will pull me out of a story every time. When the leading characters are suddenly concerned with the whereabouts of a villain that’s already in custody, I’m left wondering what I missed. And I see the author has returned to her inability to call eyes “eyes”. I mean “pleaders”? Why? There are a lot of tasteful ways to say the kid was begging with his eyes that wouldn’t have left me with a headache from rolling mine so hard. If you’re looking for something that’s completely over-the-top and more than a little ridiculous, this could be the book for you. I was looking for a bit more realism.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Hidden Gems.

Rylee and Jake😍

Rylee is told by her boss that she is taking an assignment undercover to protect a billionaire who needs some time away from Miami to finish his current project without interference from others. However, Rylee is not pleased with her assignment as she wants to be in the thick of things!

Jake’s partner Leo has convinced him after the last few months and with everything that’s happened that he needs to have some downtime....we’ll considering he’s being stalked by a woman he has no interest in, he was almost kidnapped and it seems the list is never ending, he decides to go on a cruise 🚢 and hopefully finish the development of the app within a less stressful environment. When he spots Rylee he’s completely enchanted and hopes he might get to have some more time with the beauty....however, things heat up quickly when he boards the ship😀

A really good quick paced story and longer than I’m used to by Mimi but absolutely loved it and all the characters. A few “hidden” surprises which are always nice twists to the story.....like a stowaway kitten and more💕

Keeps you guessing
This was an entertaining read that had many twists and turns and I enjoyed the fast paced action. However it was a little over the top at times and some aspects were never explained. For example it was meant to be a secret that Jake was going on this cruise; so how did so many villains manage to get on board too. Further editing was also required as there were errors such as suspects walking off when they were supposedly already handed over to authorities and it kept changing as to which sister was the eldest. I still really enjoyed reading this book and was able to just go with the flow and ignore these factors.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I have to say that the Undercover FBI series is my favorite series of Mimi Barbour's numerous series, and Special Agent Rylee lives up to my expectations for this series. It is a great suspense read with some romance thrown in that kept me turning pages well into the night. The story taking place on a luxury cruise liner was a wonderful setting for this story too. This is a must read for anyone that has read any of the other books in the series. Or if you haven't dove into this series yet, this is a great book to begin with - you won't be lost as every book is a stand-alone with no cliffhangers.

Terrific!
A wonderful story about an FBI agent and a billionaire who she is assigned to guard on a cruise ship. Rylee let her sister, a dress designer, select her wardrobe for the cruise. He was instantly attracted when he first caught sight of her, little knowing that she was there as his bodyguard. Danger, romance, a delightful stowaway, death, babies, kidnapping, along with laughs and tears make this a super-entertaining read.

Well Rylee didn't want to be there -- babysit a spoiled billionaire? She wants to do "real" work but she went anyway. Jake wasn't looking forward to the cruise, but spotted her right away. Great chemistry between them and a hot romance, there are bad guys, an adventure, and all kinds of interference in their path to True Love, if they can even figure out what that is. Fast moving story with lots going on. Great, well-developed characters and it's all wrapped up in an HEA. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).

I liked the idea of this story but so much was not believable. I am not quite sure why Jake could not know he had protection while on a cruise by himself. I liked Rylee and how she learned to listen to her heart and fall for Jake. I would have thought he would have been a little more upset finding out he was lied to and that his room was bugged. Having been on cruises I am not sure how people can get on and off a ship when they are not passengers with proper cruise ID. If you can overlook these things, the story was interesting to read.

Riley and her sister Mari were the only family they had left after an accident killed their parents.

Riley’s job with the FBI made it especially hard for Mari not to be a protective mama bear as the elder sister.

An assignment to protect a wealthy inventor on board a cruise ship should be mind numbingly boring. Turns out to be quite the adventure in more ways than one. Some of the biggest unexpected challenges may yet be ahead for both Riley and Mari, with very different futures possible.

Action and adventure and romance!

Not a fun holiday...

Wow! The sexy nerd and the tightly wound FBI agent on a cruise ship-? She's his reluctant but necessary bodyguard, he's designed an app other groups/governments badly want - any way they can get it!! And both badly need a stress-free time out. Sure. It'll be fine, maybe boring... What could go wrong? This story has excellent characters, believable problems, danger, tension, and... romance along with the mystery. I couldn't put it down until I'd finished it to it's surprising ending! Highly recommended!

Love the series

I have enjoyed all of,the books in this series that I have read. I like that you don’t have to read them in order as none of the characters cross between books. Rylee is a tough and dedicated agent who is extremely good at her job. Jake is her job I. This case as he is developing software that the government wants and that others want to steal for their own, Rylee is tasked to protect him but along the way they fall in love and manage to thwart three different groups who are trying to get his technology.

Awesome adventure

Each book in this series makes me love it more. The books are well written and inviting. They make you want more. This has a heck of a lot of action on that ship. Wow! I was almost dizzy with all the action and drama going on. I enjoyed the double love stories. Rylee was a force to be reckoned with, but showed he soft side to Miguel. Her sister Mari was no slouch, and had some good moves along with her impulsivity. The family Rylee chose was a jubilant surprise, but she's got more secrets for Jake!!! I fell in love even more with this author.

This was a fun and entertaining story for me. I liked how Mimi Barbour kept taking Rylee out of her comfort zone and how she kept Rylee fighting against everything. Rylee fought against everything. It was fun watching Rylee's walls crumble. Jake was fun and was more accepting of things. I enjoyed Rylee and Jake's story. Not sure how believable this story was but I enjoyed it. Mimi Barbour did manage to bring tears to my eyes towards the end. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

I've enjoyed this story a lot. It had mystery, suspense, humour, love, family, friends, twists and turns, sadness, violence, crime, chemistry, connections, emotions, trust, bravery, and it all flowed well together and along nicely. Personally I would have liked an epilogue so I could see everyone a bit further in the future...shows how much I connected to the characters! Overall I like the series, especially 1-4, the 5th one had too much sex, I thought. 6th one was again good. Now she has the 7 th, it seemed more comical then serious , for her being undercover agent. With him working non stop hours with his latest app. Was it comical and cute yes. The swearing took away from the plot, I thought. Have enjoyed her other series, and will keep a look out for her others.

She's a tough FBI Agent, one her boss gives the hardest jobs to, as he knows she is a professional and will come through for him.

This mission seemed below her normal level of danger, keeping an eye on a wealthy business man, whilst he's on a cruise.

There were a number of reasons that this trip was everything but stress free.

That's what the writer's version is so much better to read. It's a grand tale, for sure!

Sometimes you have to let the pain from the past go before you can move on.

Special Agent Rylee gets assigned to guard a rich developer on a cruise ship and is not happy about it. She thinks it will be boring but her sister is thrilled because thinks she will be safe on this assignment. Jake agrees to go on the cruise because he is burned out and needs to get away from his stalker. They are both in for a few surprises and not all of them are good.

There is danger, excitement, romance and worry. I like that Jack can bring out Raylee's soft side. She can melt at a kitten and sympathies with a 13 year old child who just wants to help his family. Very good story. I wonder if this is the last book or not. I will check it out and see. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.

Going from fast and tough to quiet and loved

Rylee also had the worst of the jobs and loving every minute wanting to show off her mad skills. But when her boss put her on a cruise to babysit all heck broke loose. What seemed to be be the worst job ever probably turned to be the best and most memorable job.

This is a very multi-layered well crafted plot. Characters easy to love even the furry one! There are so many threads to follow I almost needed a score card. From baby kitties to the baby twins your heart doesn't stand a chance. Add in all the espionage action this becomes a GREAT read! Kudos Ms. Barbour!

Beautiful

Another hit in this series. I love how each is about a different agent and their approach to the jib. Rule is on a protection detail on a cruise ship but little did she know it would change her whole world. Jake is being stocked by so many bad guys looking to steal his ap. This book keeps you on your toes.

Entertaining

A good premise with some interesting characters, however, there were a few slip ups that detracted from the experience. The author changed which sister was oldest a couple times, had a reasonably intelligent character not know what had been said a few moments previously, and a few other spots that were off the plot. Not the usual level.
