About this ebook

Secrets are my specialty.

I’m Mai Fairchild --- fox shifter, sister’s keeper, and bane of the local werewolf pack. In a world where different is dangerous, my sister and I must pretend to be human at all costs. Too bad I just lost the job that lets me live under the radar while putting food on my sister's plate.

Enter an enticing werewolf who offers enough cash to upgrade our diets from ramen noodles to salami if I join him on a magical hunt. But can I afford to accept the opportunity when the risk of working closely with every fox shifter's sworn enemy is so great?

Kira has been responsible for her sister since their parent's death. She’ll do anything necessary to keep Social Services from taking her sister, including fighting in the arena but when that falls apart there is only one choice left; working for the werewolf Alpha. Right now he thinks she is a wolf shifter too, but if he finds out the truth there is only one punishment – death! This is a good series starter. There is danger and plenty of paranormal action with hints of a possible romance.

I really enjoyed this book! Mai is a kitsune- a fox shifter. Her parents are both dead, so it’s up to her to provide for and protect her little sister Kira. Mai is just scraping by with her teaching job and earning money on the side by cage fighting. But then she loses her job and the social worker thinks she no longer can provide a secure home for Kira and is threatening to take her into foster care. And to top it all off a bunch of werewolves have come into town searching for a serial killer and want her to help in their investigation. Did I mention that wolf shifters hate fox shifters? So Mai’s life has suddenly gotten very complicated... I was hooked shortly into the story. The plot was well developed and I had to know what would happen next! The magic of the kitsune intrigued me. While they can shift into a fox, they also have a star ball which is a part of their soul, and can be used to create tangible objects including a sword and clothing. I’m very curious to learn more about how it works! I also really liked all the characters in this story. Mai is a strong and feisty heroine and she’ll do anything to protect Kira. Kira is 12 and she’s a handful. She’s much more interested in magic tricks and gamboling as a fox than in doing her schoolwork. But she’s very lovable and you can see why Mai will do anything for her. Mai’s love interest is Gunner, an alpha werewolf who doesn’t realize she’s a fox shifter. He’s strong and is hell bent on protecting Mai no matter what. I’m very interested to see how their relationship will develop in the next book. I’ll definitely have to read the next book in this series. I can’t wait to find out what happens!

About the author

Homesteader by day and werewolf…ahem, *teller of werewolf tales*…by night, Aimee Easterling is a USA Today Bestselling author writing on the boundary between urban fantasy and paranormal romance.

She heats her house with hand-split firewood, writes on an ultra-geeky Linux box, and generally does her best to confuse all reasonable assumptions.

Studying biology and spending a year backpacking around the world have both informed Aimee’s writing, but she’s quite willing to let reality slide in favor of a good story. You can learn more and download a free starter library at www.aimeeeasterling.com.
