IF WE DARE is a standalone read with a happy ever after. There are sex scenes if that is an issue for you. This is Walker and Jade's story. Walker is a first responder and has been in town for about 6 months. He also works at the Stolen Hearts Lodge. He is a quiet guy and keeps mainly to himself. Being a very big guy most folks don't want to get on his bad side. Jade is the local bartender, she is a spitfire, no one messes with her and most want to keep her happy. She is not afraid to take on any drunk that comes in her bar and causes problems. She doesn't date due to an event in college that helped her decide to stay clear of men.
Walker is very aware of Jade but he is not interested in dating. His ex cheated on him with his best friend. That didn't work out for her so she is trying to get back with him. He is not interested but she keeps texting him. They are both going to be at an upcoming wedding. He figures if he gets a date the ex will get the message and leave him alone.
One night in the bar with a very busy crowd a drunk keeps on pestering the women until Jade decides to throw him out. This time she bit off more than she can chew. The drunk lifts her off her feet and she realizes that she is in trouble. That is, until suddenly the drunk is grabbed by the collar, puts her down and is then toss out the door. It is Walker to the rescue. She is well aware of Walker but he keeps to himself and doesn't seem interested. She is interested.
Leaving the bar Walker sees two legs hanging out of the dumpster. He goes to help. It is Jade and she lost her bracelet when she tossed a garbage bag in the dumpster. He pulls her out and then goes in and finds the bracelet for her. She tells him she owes him. He asks her to go to the wedding with him and explains why he wants her help. She agrees to go.
She plays her role quite well and lets the ex know she made a big mistake letting Walker go. As things usually go at a wedding the two have a very good time. This is a great story. I loved Walker, you can't help yourself with this one. A great story, very entertaining and I highly recommend it.

Great Small Town Romance
Jade and Walker have know each other for a while. When Walker come to Jade’s rescue with an angry bar patron and then again that same night, she owes him. It just so happens he needs a date to his best friend’s wedding where he is the best man. Jade agrees and so begins the friends to lovers journey. Fake relationship tropes are one of my favorite romance tropes so I was all in! I loved the sizzling chemistry between Jade and Walker and their hesitancy to dive right in to a relationship. There were a few very emotional events in this book (no spoilers) that had them pausing to assess their life choices and whether they should acknowledge their true feelings or not. Overall, this was a solid fake relationship, friends to lovers story and I enjoyed it very much! I received an arc in exchange for an honest review. This was my first JH Croix book and I will definitely be reading more!
