His Small-Town Girl

Rate this book
She's sweet and wholesome. And hiding something.
He's back home, resurrecting old ghosts.
One of them is going to get hurt.

Molly arrives in Sutter's Hollow out of gas and out of options. The rundown ranch seems like a perfect place to hide. Except the man who owns it seems just as dangerous as what’s chasing her.

Cord's mantra growing up? Get out of Sutter’s Hollow. Now he’s back in town, but only long enough to get rid of his grandma's ball and chain—the ranch. He doesn't need a complication like Molly, who reminds him of an injured baby bird. He's no protector. So why can’t he tell her to get lost?

His Small-Town Girl is Book 1 in a brand new trilogy from Family Fiction's #1 Essential Christian Romance Author (2020).

READ AN EXCERPT NOW:

What was she going to do?

Molly caught her knuckle as she twisted the wrench on a nut that just wouldn't give. She gritted her teeth as the skin scraped away. She sucked on the skin, the iron tang of blood settling on her tongue.

Questions bounced through her mind as a cold wind blew straight down the collar of her jacket.

Once she got the nut loosened, the dead alternator would lift out. Another hour, and she'd have the new one installed in its place.

And then what?

She'd promised Cord she'd get off his property. He'd been kind, letting her stay the past two nights. She'd repaid him by cooking some of Mama's favorite meals, though she'd left him to eat in peace, staying in her room and strumming her guitar.

She hadn't slept other than in snatches.
She needed to get the fear under control. She couldn't keep going like this.

She'd seen a random stranger walking down the street and panicked. A full blown attack, with the shakes and trouble breathing. In front of Cord, who obviously pitied her.

Pitied her, but wasn't going to invite her to stay.

I'll never let you go.

I'll kill anybody you get close to.

Toby's cutting voice had been bouncing through her brain ever since.

You're mine.
She wasn't his. Never had been.

But no matter how many times she repeated it to herself, his voice followed her.

She'd found a measure of safety on Cord's land. It was quiet, peaceful. Maybe she could find someplace like it.

She tried to tell herself she would be fine.

But she didn't believe it.

Footsteps crunched in the dried grasses, and she startled so badly that she dropped her wrench into the engine with a clang.

She might've uttered a cuss word under her breath as she retrieved it.

She shot a glance at Cord, approaching from the house, but he pretended he hadn't seen her jump like a lunatic.

"Need some help?" He shoved his hands into the pockets of his jeans. His flannel shirt was unbuttoned above a T-shirt that clung to his abs.

"No thanks." She'd fight with this bolt a little more, and then she'd win. She'd do the next step and the next until the engine was rebuilt.

Too bad she didn't have a manual for how to rebuild her life.

He shifted his feet. Opened his mouth. Shut it again. Then blurted, "Can you come inside for a minute? I wanna talk."

"What's there to talk about? I told you I'm getting ready to leave. You'll have your solitude back."

He mumbled something under his breath. When she shot him a look, he awarded her a tight smile. It was some improvement over his fierce frowns. What would it take to drag a real smile from him?
"Please, will you come inside?"

The nut finally loosened, the tension giving away under the strain in her arm.
"Fine," she said.

It was the work of a few seconds to remove the nut and bolt, and then she lifted out the alternator and set it on the ground beside the truck. An empty spot was left behind in the truck's engine.

That's how she felt right now. There was a huge piece missing inside of her. She didn't know how to get it back.

She wiped her grease-stained hands on a rag as she followed Cord to the house.
In the kitchen, he motioned her to sit in one of the kitchen chairs. She crossed her arms and leaned against the counter instead.

He leveled a look on her. "You okay?"

She dropped her gaze to the floor. "I'm fine."

She wasn't fine. But he'd already seen her at her worst, and she didn't want to face his pity again.

"Molly."
She heard the skepticism in the single word.
She turned away and started running water at the sink. She scrubbed her hands with the rough green bar of soap left there. And rinsed.

And then he was close behind her, reaching around her to turn off the water. Her body was betraying her again. It was awareness of him at her shoulder—not fear—that made her heart pound.

That and the sickening memory of Toby.

"I want to know what's going on," he said. The words emerged heavy, as if they’d cost him.

She squeezed her eyes closed.

He touched her, cupping one hand beneath her elbow.

And when she looked up at him again, something was burning behind his eyes. "I have to know. Did someone hurt you?"

She clutched the edge of the sink. "He tried."

Ugh. Another day...another book that took me way too long to read. This 150 page book felt like it was 350 pages long and took me three nights to read.

Molly and Cord are two people with a barn-full of issues. Molly has fled Austin, Texas in an attempt to get away from a dangerous stalker. She gets a couple hours away when her car stalls out in the drive of No-Name Ranch. The owner reluctantly lets her spend the night. When she then proves to be handy around the falling-down ranch, he reluctantly lets her stay.

Cord left Sutter Hollow under a cloud of scandal ten years ago and vowed to never return. But when his cruel grandmother dies he’s forced to return to the ranch. His plan is to make repairs and sell it as soon as possible. A traumatized woman showing up on his land upends his plans, especially when they fall in love.

There was an abundance of telling vs showing in this book. Once glance at Molly and Cord automatically knows “something bad has happened to her.” It takes Molly a couple more days to realize Cord “is haunted by his past.” So much of this story was told through internal monologue instead of through storytelling.

One thing that makes me bonkers in a book is when there are “secrets” about a character and the author spends the whole book hinting about the secrets, waiting and waiting to give the big reveal! It was even more frustrating here because the heroine had secrets - that the reader knew but the hero did not (YAY - I like this), but then there’s a big mystery about the hero’s past that is referred to frequently but the reader has no idea what HIS big secret is… Why treat the two characters so differently?

The other issue I had with this story is that a lot of the background was only cursorily explained. We know Cord’s grandmother treated him badly, but not why. We get only a brief description of the big event that sent Cord running from the town - and even worse, I think it was done that way on purpose to set up the next book in the series. Sadly, not enough detail was given about any of the characters and thus no interest was piqued for reading any more from this series.

This book should have been long enough to give this story a fair shake. Much to my dismay, not much worked out for me...starting with a book cover that is completely incongruous to the type of story we’re given, and ending with a story that leaves me with more questions than were answered.

His Small-Town Girl is the first book in Lacy Williams' Sutter's Hollow series. This sweet and interesting romance novel has likable characters with mysterious and interesting pasts.

Molly is desperate to leave her past in the past. She is running from something and looking for a safe place to disappear. When she sees an ad to work on a farm, she leaps at the opportunity. Cord has returned to his childhood home to sell it, but he never put an ad in for help, nor does he want help. However, Molly isn't about to let him refuse.

As Molly and Cord work together to fix up the ranch, they both have to face their troubled pasts. Cord had a difficult and unloved childhood, and this still haunts him. Molly has her own troubles and is definitely hiding from something that Cord wants to protect her from. I enjoyed watching their relationship develop into romance. They are wounded people who can heal each other. I can't wait to read more in this delightful HEA romantic series!

Cord and Molly are trying to escape, but in Sutters Hollow, they learn the hard way that no matter how far you run, you cannot outrun the past. Secrets from their past relationships are revealed and they soon realize that they cannot hide from the monsters under the bed. Can they overcome their obstacles together? Can they overcome the hurt, abuse, pain and rejection and learn that it's okay to ask for help?

While I enjoyed their story there were some areas that felt a bit incomplete to me as I wanted clarity on Mackie and her hatred right down until death, the mysterious signature for the loan that was never resolved, do not get me started on her father who I want to just bash in the head, the accident story of from when Cord and they were kids felt a bit flimsy to me and can somebody please tell me where Cord got money from to buy a ring when he could not afford a water heater?

I love Lacy William book and this one has to be one of her best! The two main characters are about as down on your luck as two people can be! As they rise from the ashes, you will believe in hope, love and second chances. This book touches me so much, especially with what is happening in the world right now. We NEED a book like this to restore our faith in humanity! Cord had such a difficult childhood and should have been loved and cared for by the one person responsible for that - his grandma - but he wasn't. So now she's left him a ranch and so many problems that he doesn't know half of them! Who does that? Molly is running from people who have betrayed her and I mean terribly betrayed her...people who should have cared for her too. Somehow she ends up on Cord's ranch and she wont let him turn her away, she's going to stay and help him fix up this ranch - but there is also an ulterior motive for it, he just doesn't know it! The two of them are just so broken but oh so right for each other and I loved how the author peeled back the layers of their relationship! The frustrations, the danger, the blossoming romance...so, so good! Already I can't wait for the next book!

I liked it

What i loved... It was so descriptive... i could feel i was there with the characters at the ranch, from the smells of cooking, the layout of the building to the views from the window the Author transported me there.

What was Meh

The story was a bit bland and parts seemed a bit dramatic.. like the MC cutting everyone out of his life and avoiding them for years then being so content at the end of the book so, well easily.....

I don't know.... some bits didn't add up.... still the writing was beautiful, it wasn't a hardship to read by any means

AHH this book was great! I so enjoyed getting to know Cord (man, that name grew on me quickly) and Molly in this first book in the Sutter's Hollow series.

Williams did a great job at creating a sense of mystery and intrigue (what was the deal with Cord's grandma? What's got Molly spooked? How's it going to all pan out?). Details came out layer by layer, just how I like it (no matter how many times I say I just want to know everything right now). :) And ooh boy, The Moment. (Is that kind of like "the look" people reference? :D) That was epic. Every girl needs a Cord (and a Moment) in her life.

I legit can't wait for books 2 and 3 to come out. In the meantime, I have some more Lacy Williams books to read!

I received a copy of the book from the author via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

This has be one of my favorite Lacy Williams book!! Her novels are always good, but this one was great! I really liked the characters and felt an instant connection with Molly. I really like that even though Cord grew in this book. He made some really big steps in opening up and beginning to live again. I liked that he and Molly really complimented each other.

Molly is on the run as her life is in his danger, while on the run she lands in Sutter's Hollow, just when she thinks she's in luck when she finds a help needed at a ranch, things don't completely work as she initially thought they would, because Cord didn't post the ad and wanted her gone as fast as possible. With her truck being dead she has nowhere to go. But there's a silver lining to everything, so don't give up.

Cord also has been through a difficult childhood and an event that changed his life and the others in his life. He finds it very difficult to forgive himself but with Molly, he starts to feel the joy of life again. He soon realises that he doesn't want to run away from the town, he, in fact, likes the small town things, which I personally liked because I was missing the whole small-town vibe as he wasn't ready to be hanging out in the town.

Since this book didn't cover Cord's friends' feelings and what they're up to after that tragic night, I need to read the next book! The romance was good too, albeit a bit insta, it had its charm. It was a nice read. I liked the author's writing too!

Thanks to the author for the copy in exchange for an honest review.

*I voluntarily reviewed this e-book from the author.

I didn't know what to expect when I picked up HIS SMALL-TOWN GIRL by Lacy Williams but this romance was everything I could have wanted and more.

Cord has one goal when it comes to the ranch where his grandmother raised him - fix it up, sell it, and get out of Sutter's Hollow as quickly as possible. This place holds only bad memories and regrets and there is nothing for him here anymore. But when he meets Molly, a kind-hearted young woman who is obviously running from something or someone, he cannot help but want to help her. So he offers her a deal - if she helps him fix up the ranch, she can stay there for a little while - a deal that Molly is delighted to accept. This is the first place that she has felt safe in a long time and there is something about Cord that makes her trust him implicitly. She knows that he would never hurt her or come on to her. But as their friendship grows steadily both Molly and Cord cannot stop the flares of attraction that exists between them. But Cord is shut off to the world after what happened ten years ago, and Molly's worst nightmare and the reason she has been running is about to burst into her life and change everything forever ...

A beautiful story with sweet and loveable characters, HIS SMALL-TOWN GIRL by Lacy Williams is a wonderful first instalment in this new romance series, and I look forward to reading the next book. The setting works really well and I loved watching Cord open himself up again to his past and those who always cared for him. Molly is a strong and determined character who doesn't realise her own strength and spirit, and I loved watching her and Cord develop their relationship.

HIS SMALL-TOWN GIRL by Lacy Williams is a delightful romance that has something for everyone and I look forward to reading more from this author.

“His Small Town Girl” by Lacy Williams

Green Gables Book Reviews thoughts:
A sweet, clean small town “the boy might be falling for the girl” book is sometimes all you need. "His Small town Girl" is the perfect choice!
Author Lacy Williams has a way of drawing you in quickly. Her writing style is perfect, taking you through the story, like a friend is telling you what happened. Loved this book! 5/5

Cord had to return to the place he never wanted to be again. The No Name Ranch, where Cord and his brother lived with their grandmother as kids, has nothing but bad memories for him. He had no way of knowing the poor condition his grandmother left the No Name in when she died until he got there. His goal is to fix it up, sell it, and forget about it. The faster he can get back to his life, the better. He wants to be away from this town and the memories as soon as possible.

Molly shows up when her truck breaks down in the No Name’s driveway. When she walks up to where Cord is working, all he wants is for her to leave. But, she can’t go anywhere with a truck that won’t run. Cord thinks he might see a faded bruise by this girl's jaw. Cord doesn’t know it, but Molly is in hiding. She’s afraid and needs somewhere to hide. But, Cord’s only focus is getting the No Name sold. Can Molly convince him to let her stay and if she does stay, will she be safe in the small town that drove Cord away?

His Small Town Girl by Lacy Williams was a suspenseful and heartwarming read. I enjoyed the story and look forward to reading more about Callum in the next book in the series!
I just loved Molly. As Cord said, she's young, but she has an old soul and a huge heart. Even when she was dealing with her own demons, she sought ways to ease Cord's pain. She is such a treasure! And I thought it was awesome she was a genius at working on cars/trucks/tractors! Total farm girl.
Cord is a bit rough around the edges, but he grows on you with time. How he is always trying to make Molly feel safe, even at his own expense, is a testament to his true heart.
I loved how these two broken and battered people came together and found ways to help each other heal. Both Cord and Molly's background are mysterious and intriguing. Wanting to know what had happened to them kept me turning pages!
And then the real action started as Mollys past continued to haunt her. You won't want to put this book down for long!
I loved Cord and Molly's story, and any fan of contemporary Christian fiction/inspirational fiction/clean romance will enjoy it, too!
I was given a copy of this book by the author with no expectation of a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Sweet small town romance has Molly evading a stalker as she arrives at cranky Cord's run down ranch. Cord ends up letting her stay since she wants a job. They both have issues in their pasts and they begin to heal and fall in love. The story is sweet, but since this is a shorter novel, I felt at times that things were missing and should have been fleshed out better.

HIS SMALL TOWN GIRL is a wonderful story of healing and love. Molly is running from a dangerous ex and Noah has reluctantly returned to his hometown after leaving following a horrible accident. These two have a lot of emotional baggage to sort through and their love story is a sweet tale of second chances.

This book was heavy on story and pretty light on romance. I wish the author had given us a more drawn out happy ending after such a heavy story. It felt like 95% of this book was trauma and sadness. It could have used some more moments of levity to balance out the story. It could have been a 5 star book if that balance had been struck.

His Small-Town Girl begins the Sutter’s Hollow series with an emotional romance between two people who are emotionally and physically running from the past yet are finding their future, together, in the most unlikely place.

Cord vowed to never set foot in Sutter’s Hollow once he’d escaped, yet here he is back settling his mean-hearted grandmother’s estate or what’s left of the dilapidated, rundown ranch. The last thing he needed to deal with was a wounded, scared woman almost demanding a job, a refuge, and help to get this ranch back in shape. But maybe meeting Molly will turn out to be the best thing this ranch ever brought him after all.

Molly is on the run from a dangerous past. She’s found the perfect place to hide, pull herself together, and figure out what to do next. She knows Cord doesn’t really want her around but this ranch draws her – not to mention its owner. She might be scared out of her mind, but she’s also stubborn as she sets out to carve a new future with a most unlikely hero.

His Small-Town Girl is the type of story that draws me in immediately. Both Cord and Molly are wounded deep and each needs healing in so many ways. As they work on the ranch and face the danger following Molly they also start to let go of their pasts and begin the journey of falling in love with all the risks involved.

I really don’t want to spoil this story for anyone by giving too many details – but it probably says something when I tell you that the author had gifted me a copy for review and I waited until release day to purchase it before publishing that review post. So, yeah, His Small-Town Girl captured my heart, kept me on the edge of my seat worrying about this couple, and completely enjoying this small-town community. I’d definitely recommend this story and the coming series – if you love a good, strong, clean romance then I don’t think you’ll be one bit disappointed in this start to what looks like a really good, emotional series. I’ve already got the release date for Secondhand Cowboy on my Google calendar so I won’t forget. *shrugs while grinning – life gets hectic so I keep reminders*

I own a Kindle copy of this title (which the author had also gifted before publication for review).

This story is about Molly and Cord, who find themselves drawn to each other, albeit reluctantly, in a small town called Sutter’s Hollow. She is running away from something and he is fighting to have to face the past, both are vulnerable and wary of letting the other get too close.

Molly’s car breaks down leaving her with little option but to stay in the small town, but she is low on funds and needs somewhere to stay. Responding to an advert asking for ranch hands, she turns up at the No Name ranch where she meets Cord, who clearly does not want her around.

He reluctantly agrees to help her, by giving her a bed for the night and taking her into town to get the parts needed to fix her car and makes it clear that he expects them to leave. However, whilst at the garage she has a panic attack, he recognises the signs and can’t walk away from her. He finds himself wanting to know more about Molly and being charmed by her easy friendly manner, even though she is scared of something.

He is careful not to scare her and gradually he gains her trust, but is he prepared to trust her in return? Cord has his own demons that need facing and he has been running from them for a long time, the No Name ranch is a place where he never felt worthy and waste. An incident with his friends when he was younger has further enforced this feeling. Gradually Molly manages to warm his heart and he finds that he will do anything to protect his small-town girl.

I will be honest the front cover of this book made me think it was going to be a bit sickly sweet, but the description made me decide to give it a go and I am really glad that I did. It offers more than your usual boy meets girl circumstances, with both of them facing real issues. These issues are handled well, in that they do not bring this book down but add a further layer of depth to the characters. It also carried through the book in such a way that you wanted to read on.

I really enjoyed this book and have since found out that this is part of a series of three books, with the next book being published in June of this year, something to keep an eye out for.

𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹-𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹 is such a sweet and delightful romance. I really enjoyed getting to know our MC’s Cord & Molly in this first book in the Sutter’s Hollow series.

I really enjoyed how Williams developed her characters. They were both so troubled by their pasts, but the way they were written also showed that these characters were capable of so much love and growth. Very well done characters.

This book definitely shows Williams writing chops. This book is short, quick read, but was so well written that you don’t feel as if it was rushed or missing anything. The plot was very good and had a bit of a romantic suspense vibe which I enjoy! It had the perfect HEA ending that we all love and want in our romances, but it had that edge of mystery and ‘WHATS GONNA HAPPEN!’ to it as well which made it such a fun read.

Overall I highly enjoyed this story, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a quick feel-good romance read. I will definitely be looking for and picking up the other stories in this series.

**Much thanks to the author Lacy Williams for providing an eARC via NetGalley in exchange only for my thoughts and review.

Cord is back in Sutter’s Hollow settling his late Grandmothers estate. The No Name ranch is where Cord grew up after losing his parents, and his childhood is full of unpleasant memories. He cannot wait to fix up the ranch and put it up for sale leaving Sutter’s Hollow for good.
Molly arrives at the ranch clutching an ad supposedly placed by Cord looking for a ranch hand. She is lost, afraid, and running from her past. She cannot go back to her old life and she fears for her safety. Hopefully, this will be her safe haven.
Cord meets Molly and immediately wants her gone. He does not need the complications of a ranch hand and a woman who looks afraid of her own shadow. He has enough on his plate, and she is the last thing he needs… or maybe she is just what he needs.
Cord takes Molly back to town with the intention of leaving her and her troubles far behind him, but after an incident and the look of fear in Molly’s eyes, he can’t help but take her under his wing and vows to protect her at all costs. Can these two lost souls find their way back to love and life together?
I absolutely loved this story by Lacy Williams. As soon as you meet Cord and Molly you automatically feel a connection with their characters, as they were so beautifully written. I also appreciated that it took the two main characters awhile to learn to trust each other and learn that they were not alone in this world. Both brought something into the story line and the plot was very true to real life. The book was brilliantly written, and I am so glad that there will be more books in this series.
A huge thank you to Lacy Williams and NetGalley for an advanced copy of the book to read and review. It is at the top of my favourite books for this year.

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. And I honestly loved it. His Small-Town Girl reminds me of the romances I used to read years ago, those that don't follow a commercial (and mostly predictable) plot formula. His Small-Town girl brings us real people with real problems. Not problems created to address a certain trend, where all the characters are made to behave in the socially accepted way, so perfect they sound fake from whatever angle you look at them.
This doesn't happen in His Small-Town Girl. Molly is down on her luck - her last boyfriend turned out to be a stalker and her family did not provide support (and mostly still doesn't throughout the book), so she needs to fend for herself. Cord, on the other hand, has done well in life, but not thanks to the grandmother who was supposed to love and educate him when his parents couldn't. As a result, he left Sutter's Hollow without looking back - he cut ties with the town, with his brother and with his old friends.
When they meet, they seem to be headed in opposite directions - Molly wants to stay, Cord wants to leave as fast as he can. Over just a little bit of common ground - the farm Cord inherited and needs to renovate to be able to sell - they both build friendship and later, love.
His Small-Town Girl is mostly a book on hope, second chances and building bridges. If you love a clean, heartwarming romance that will leave you with a smile on your face, then this book is perfect for you.
His Small-Town Girl is book one in Sutter's Hollow series and I can't wait to read the next instalments.

I loved this story.
Once again Lacy has worked her magic and hooked our hearts and emotions with her stories. Lacy’s tone is a little more somber in this story than in others, but it fits with her characters. We have down home characters who both feel the spark but refuse to admit it and actually fight against it.

Cord was back on his grandmother’s ranch for one reason only, to get it ready to sell. The only memories associated with the place were bad and he just wanted to be done with it, once and for all. He didn’t expect to have a young woman drive up and say she was applying for the job… a job he hadn’t even posted. He really hadn’t planned on having her truck breakdown in his front drive or her having a panic attack in town while he took her in to get parts for the antique.
Molly’s running from a stalker and she’s about out of money and strength to go. The gruff man who tells her he doesn’t need a ranch hand and even if he did, he didn’t have money to pay her, actually makes her feel safer than she has in days – or maybe weeks. As the story progresses and Molly’s stalker becomes more of a threat, she feels like running is her only alternative to keep Cord safe. He fights her ‘flight’ instincts because he wants to be her safe place, even though he feels like he’s failed to keep his little brother and his best friend safe years before.
Can Cord deal with his baggage enough to make new, happier memories on his grandmother’s ranch? Can he convince Molly to stay long enough to create those memories?
Read it to find out.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

I read the second book of this series first "Secondhand Cowboy" and fell in love with the characters. I knew I had to go back and read this one. The only negative for me (and it did detract from the story a little but not in a way to reduce a star), was reading about Noah and the accident that caused his blindness.) The cause of the blindness is different in each of these stories. In this story, it was a result of faulty fireworks. In the "Secondhand Cowboy," it is the result of a loss of control of a pick-up then hitting a tree. I hope the third story doesn't have a different scenario for the blindness.

Anyway Molly appears at No-Name Ranch. Cord inherited the ranch from his aunt. She is looking for a job. She has a stalker, a broken down truck and no money. Cord needs to fix-up the ranch and sell quickly so he can get back to Houston and get away from the memories of the ranch and Sutton's Hollow.

This story is an excellent one. The plot is intriguing enough to keep me reading and turning the pages to see what will happen next. It is also written in my favorite dual POV format. This really helps me to connect and understand the characters so much better.

This is a sweet, clean romance with a touch of mystery and intrigue. I highly recommend this story to any one of any age. This book can be read as a stand-alone but I would read the second story "Secondhand Cowboy" as well.

It put my heart through the wringer, in a good way.

This book is so gorgeously heartfelt. It is like a sad country song with a happy ending, along with some suspense caused by a psycho stalker. Two broken souls find each other and start to heal each other. It was so beautiful with two unforgettable characters. Lacy Williams wrote with such exquisite emotion and realistic details of life on a cattle ranch. This is a sweet romance (just kissing) and a contemporary Western romance with a dash of romantic suspense. I highly recommend this book to any romance to any romance fan who is in the mood for a little sadness along with a beautiful romance.

The characters deeply touched my heart. The hero, Cord, is flawed, but he’s such a good man. He has had a really hard life in his 27 years. Cord meets Molly, 21, who has been fleeing a psycho stalker. The cops in Houston didn’t help her, so she drove into a tiny Texas town trying to find a place to hide. Cord reluctantly lets her stay on the broken-down ranch he just inherited. Molly is dealing with a lot, but she finds joy in the little things and has a resilient spirit. Molly and Cord's story gave me all of the feels and had such a lovely happy ending. I can’t wait to read the next book in the trilogy to get another dose of Lacy Williams's compelling, heartfelt writing.

She’s running from a stalker. He wants to escape Sutter’s Hollow and leave his past behind forever. But when fate brings them together, will they be able to deny the attraction they feel for one another?

This was a cute, touching story in a small-town setting. The characters were built well with great depth and backstory. I liked how the mistreatment and neglect of horses is compared to Molly’s trauma. Cord had plenty of layers that Molly had to peel through to find the man beneath. She had plenty of her own walls as well.

I was confused that in the beginning, the story stated that Cal was the one who drove the car that caused the crash and Cord had brought the beer. Later it said it was Cord who crashed the car, and Noah had brought the beer. It’s a bit confusing considering there is another story about Callum. He fled the town as if the accident had been completely his fault, which wouldn’t make sense if he wasn’t the one to blame. Because this was an important turning point in the story, I think it’s important to have these details straightened out.

Despite the inconsistency and confusion, I did enjoy this book. I liked the characters and the slow-burn romance. This was an enjoyable read.

Ms. Williams’ engaging story about two people running from their troubled past captured my attention and my heart from Chapter One.

Cord has returned to his home town to settle the estate of the mean-spirited grandmother who raised him and his brother after their parents were killed in an accident. His grandmother’s rigid no nonsense attitude toward the boys made for a miserable childhood. Cord just wants to get the ranch fixed up enough to sell it and get back to his life in the city.

Enter Molly. She is running from an abusive boyfriend. She offers to help Cord with whatever needs to be done on the ranch. She needs a place where she can feel safe. She is desperate enough that she won’t take no for an answer.

Cord and Molly are two wounded souls who have only been able to depend on themselves. They find it hard to trust anyone. Neither can give up control of any part of their lives to another person. When they trusted someone else in the past, it didn’t end well.

I recommend His Small Town Girl to readers who enjoy a clean small town romance.

I received an ARC from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

His Small-Town Girl is the first book I've read by Lacy Williams and the first book in her new Sutter's Hollow series. Both Molly and Cord have something from their pasts they are running from, and are reluctantly thrown together when Molly's truck breaks down on Cord's ranch. Cord is back in Sutter's Hollow to make the repairs needed to sell his grandmother's ranch and head back to Houston and his life.

I enjoyed His Small-Town Girl. It is a sweet contemporary romance. I liked both Molly and Cord, but did wish they each had been a bit more forthcoming with issues from their pasts. Cord was almost unlikeable when he first appeared on the page he was so gruff, and I was so glad to see he had way more heart as the story progressed. Molly seemed really timid at first, but I enjoyed watching her come out of her shell and I felt like she really came into her own by the end of the book. I did feel like the story moved really slowly at times, and wished Cord especially had shared his past sooner. He had lots of thoughts about his past, yet it was a bit vague and made the story slow down as I was trying to figure out why he acted the way he did through much of the story. I did end up liking Cord and Molly as a couple, and their story overall.

His Small-Town Girl was a good start to a new series. It introduced many characters I believe will appear in other books in the series. Fans who love sweet contemporary romances should totally give this book and author a try.
