An enterprising Chicagoan, living in a tent city, and hustling for coin on the streets, becomes the first man to walk on Mars. Because he is not a professional astronaut, upon his return to earth, he is publicly critical of the cost and wisdom of a NASA mission to a dead, uninhabitable planet.
